On 22nd August I gave a talk about my experiences of publishing to the Sudbury U3A group. A lively audience of around 150 came up with many interesting questions, especially from members of the local creative writing groups.
On 2nd July I had the honour of presenting the prizes for the short story competition at the Felixstowe Book Festival, together with fellow judge and editor of Suffolk magazine, Jayne Lindill. As one of the authors shortlisted for the 2017 New Angle Prize, I had the pleasure of participating in a showcase event at the Ipswich Institute on 28th June. I was more than a little awestruck to meet two writers whose work I greatly admire: Jill Dawson and Julie Myerson.
On 16th June I spent a really enjoyable afternoon as guest speaker at Wickhambrook Women’s Institute’s annual Literary Lunch. Delicious home-cooked food and a friendly and receptive audience – what could be nicer?

‘Sandlands’ has been named in some awe-inspiring company on the longlist for the Edge Hill Prize 2017 – the main national prize for short story collections.
On Thursday 6th April 2016 I shall be honoured to be a guest of the book group at Soham Library in Cambridgeshire, discussing my short story collection, ‘Sandlands’.
On 13th May 2017 I will be Leigh Chambers’ studio guest on Cambridge 105’s radio show, Bookmark. I’m looking forward to it no end – but finding it hard to choose just four tracks which have inspired my writing…
I’ve just heard that ‘Sandlands’ has made it through to the final six books shortlisted for the New Angle Prize for Literature 2017 – a wonderful honour.
